O.W.L. offers both Onsite an Offsite Education Programs.

Let us Come to You

O.W.L. in the Classroom

The ‘O.W.L. in the Classroom’ program is available Tuesday to Friday and can accommodate all grade levels from preschool to university. The ‘O.W.L. in the Classroom’ program is 90 minutes long (60 minutes for Preschool and Kindergarten) and is formatted to follow the science curriculum for each grade. Teachers can also request other topics to be discussed.

Meet Live Raptors

The students also will have the opportunity to meet two live raptors in the classroom. The Educator will bring 1 owl and 1 hawk/falcon/turkey vulture.

Visit our “Offsite Education Birds” page to find out more about the raptors who may visit your classroom.

Visual & Audio Aids

Visual and audio aids are used to explain and show the following:

  • The function of the O.W.L Society
  • The basic biology and behaviour of owls
  • Sizes and types of owls
  • Dangers to raptors and other wildlife
  • What students can do to help raptors and other wildlife

Booking Details

We offer offsite classes Tuesday to Friday for morning and afternoon sessions. For more information or to make a booking, please contact us Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm.

We encourage teachers to speak with other teachers of their school so that they can book an entire day with O.W.L.  Setting aside a day of O.W.L. programs also allows the teachers to share the kilometer fee, making the cost lower than if the programs were on separate days.

Program Fee

The program fee is charged per program and depends on the number of attendants.

Groups of 30 or less students
$150.00 + kilometer fee*

Groups of 31 or more students
$5.00/child + kilometer fee*

*The kilometer fee is $0.50/km round trip and applies to all offsite visits.

Come Visit O.W.L.

Onsite Education

The Onsite Program at O.W.L is available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, rain or shine, and is held in our onsite classroom in our Schoolhouse and outdoors in our educational tour area. Class visits are only available for Grade 1 and up to adults. Unfortunately, Onsite Programs cannot accommodate preschools and kindergarten classes. While the class is visiting O.W.L, there are both indoor and outdoor portions of the visit and the total program time is 90 minutes.

Meet Live Raptors

The students will also have the opportunity to meet a live raptor in the classroom. The majority of the time, it is Sarah, our resident barn owl and one of O.W.L.’s ambassadors.

During the tour of the Educational Area, the students will have the opportunity to see 15 different species of raptors, which include eagles, falcons, hawks, owls, and turkey vultures. These birds are permanent residents at O.W.L. due to permanent injuries that inhibit their survival in the wild, which is explained to the students.
